PARKSIDE GARAGE
Enhancing garage functionality through expansion | Savannah, Georgia
The property owners current garage allowed for a workbench and storage but it lacked enough space to accommodate an automobile.
The original garage featured block construction that did not complement the home's facade. It was accessible solely through a single side entry, with no rear alley access, and its roof framing restricted the available height within the interior space.
To comply with zoning requirements, only two of the original block walls were removed. The concrete pad was expanded to accommodate the increased area and additional blocks were incorporated into the existing structure to achieve the new dimensions. The roof height was raised, and the framing was engineered to provide greater interior space within the garage.
The exterior of the newly expanded garage was clad with Hardi siding and finished in paint to match the color scheme of the existing residence.
The garage expansion was enhanced with improved lighting, a newly constructed brick-lined planting bed, and a gravel driveway bordered with matching brick that offers direct access to the alley.
