KITCHEN
Originally serving as a back porch, the current kitchen area lacked sufficient space for meal preparation and storage, as well as contemporary design and functionality. The objective was to seamlessly integrate the kitchen with the dining area, creating an open-concept layout.
The primary challenge in the kitchen area was the removal of the exterior support wall separating the dining space from the kitchen. To maintain structural integrity and safeguard against collapse of the home's rear exterior wall, a steel beam was installed in conjunction with a steel enclosure for the HVAC duct work. In addition, the kitchen was added on what was once the home's previous rear porch and the floor was pitched to allow water drainage.
The kitchen island was extended into the dining area to facilitate seamless interaction between both spaces. Newly installed cabinetry enhanced storage capacity, while the floor was leveled and fitted with matching hardwood for a cohesive appearance. Additionally, a flush-mount ceiling kitchen exhaust system was implemented to maintain an open atmosphere within the space.
PRIMARY BATH
The original bathroom was deficient in both functionality and modern amenities. The clawfoot tub was unsuitable for a comfortable shower experience. Additionally, the design of the sink and window failed to provide adequate space for personal care products.
The space was redesigned to optimize room efficiency. A vanity was incorporated to resolve storage needs, complemented by the installation of a generously sized walk-in shower featuring an integrated bench.
Additional improvements include a custom linen closet and a dedicated laundry station. Notable details are a wall niche positioned outside the shower for additional storage and a new casement window that offers an exceptional view of an iconic church steeple in downtown Savannah.
